Library

The Chaparral Genealogical Society Library is located at 310 North Live Oak in Tomball, Texas. The library hours are: Mon.- Wed. 10-2 Sat. 10-2 and closed on the 4th Saturday so that members can attend the monthly meetings.

The library collection contains over 2,100 books (some private manuscripts), over 280 roles of microfilm and many quarterly newsletters. The library has two computers with federal census, marriage and land records. Social Security Death index and the US 1880 Census on CD. The library is constantly adding additional materials to preserve our history.

There are 305 books of family histories in our library. These are invaluable genealogy aids. They are housed on the front wall opposite from the computers. Click here to see an alphabetical list of the families listed in the titles.

The society maintains an Index of Surnames containing those surnames that it's members are investigating. The list is used to identify members who are researching the same ancestral lines.

The index is also useful for finding members who have ancestors who settled in the same area of the U.S. The sharing of information, of course eliminates duplication of efforts and speeds up the progress of all members.
